Today, the draw ceremony of the World Youth (U19) Men’s Basketball Championship were completed, after which it became clear that the Lithuanian national team will start the tournament in group A together with the national teams of Canada, Japan and Senegal.
„We like our group, we do not underestimate the competitors. We understand that Canada should be the strongest competitor in the group, but Mali’s performance two years ago in the U19 Championship shows that we really can’t underestimate anything. Therefore, all matches will have to be seen as decisive.
Together with the representatives of the federation, we are laying the details of the training camp, we plan to invite 16 basketball players and the camp will start on June 1. We plan to play 4-6 friendly matches, but the exact amount will depend on the ability to find opponents”, – said the Lithuanian men’s U19 head coach Gediminas Petrauskas.
Gediminas Petrauskas’ team if qualified will play with a group B team in the playoffs. Latvian, Serbian, Iranian and Puerto Rican teams will compete in this group.
The World Cup will take place on July 3-11 in Latvia, Daugavpils and Riga.
