The first basketball game in Lithuania, which took place on April 23rd, 1922, gave the start to this sport in our country. Government of the Republic of Lithuania, emphasising the exceptional anniversaries of historical events and cultural phenomena, declared 2022 the year of the Lithuanian basketball.
To mark the centenary of Lithuanian basketball, it was decided to commemorate this anniversary with a special logo. The new symbol will be used on all Lithuanian basketball league team jerseys during the 2021–2022 basketball season.
“We can be proud that basketball, which has become the business card of our country, makes Lithuania’s name famous all over the world. It is during the biggest tournaments, the most important games, that we become more united than ever. The centenary will remind basketball fans that this sport in Lithuania is full of rich history”, – said Arvydas Sabonis, president of the Lithuanian Basketball Federation.
The gold-highlighted logo depicts the most important symbol of this sport – a basketball held by the number 100, which commemorates the anniversary.
We will announce the events planned to mark the centenary of Lithuanian basketball in the near future.
