The Lithuanian youth (U19) team suffered its first defeat in preparation for the upcoming World Youth Championship in Daugavpils (Latvia).
Lithuanian national team had to acknowledge the advantage of its opponents with the final result of 78 to 81 (26:23, 18:16, 19:22, 15:20).
Halfway through the fourth quarter, our team was still in the lead – 73:67, but for the rest of the quarter Australian national team had a 14:5 run and sealed the win.
Ąžuolas Tubelis scored 18 points and 8 rebounds, Augustas Marčiulionis added 12 points and 6 assists, Dominykas Stenionis scored 9 points.
„It was a rollercoaster game, a bad start from us, the worst thing is high number of turnovers as well as we allowed a lot of offensive rebounds. We are glad that the opponent used different tactics and now we know what our team is missing”, – said head coach of the team, Gediminas Petrauskas.
Nineteen-year-olds are currently having a training camp in Latvia and are yet to play the nineteen-year-olds from the USA on Wednesday (June 30th).
Lithuanians will play their first official game in the tournament against Canada this Saturday (July 3rd) at 15:00 o’clock.
