Basketball court named after Artūras Karnišovas has been renovated

As one of the most famous Lithuanian basketball players Artūras Karnišovas celebrates his 50th anniversary, the residents of Vilnius Viršuliškės district are invited to enjoy the renovated basketball court, which has been named after him.

This court was renovated by a joint initiative of Vilnius City Municipality and the Lithuanian Basketball Federation.

„It is symbolic that the younger generation can train in the same facilities that have grown the current basketball legends. In fact, we decided to renovate the basketball court precisely for this reason – we are well aware that the passion for sports is often born by playing at the nearest court and only later moves to sports schools and professional teams, so we sought to make these spaces accessible and attractive to everyone”, – said Vilnius Deputy Mayor Valdas Benkunskas.

The Lithuanian Basketball Federation also contributed to this bilateral initiative, which renewed the court’s baskets. Thus, the federation continues its initiative by renovating at least one basketball court each year, along with local government and business.

It’s a lot of fun to be working together to renovate and revitalise more and more courts. We also welcome the city’s initiative, as this space will give young people and all citizens the opportunity to make the most of their time and become healthier. It is symbolic that this site is dedicated to Artūras Karnišovas, because it was in this area that he was born and raised and spent his free time”, -said LKF Secretary General Mindaugas Špokas.

In order to promote basketball and an active, healthy lifestyle, the Lithuanian Basketball Federation (LKF) will continue the program, according to which it will update outdoor basketball courts in various Lithuanian cities with its partners.
